Course Description:

Use of restraints and restrictive practices can impact a person's human rights, their quality of life, as well as their safety and dignity. This course is filmed from the point of view of the residents who are being restrained and provides a unique insight that allows care staff to learn about and consider effective, person-centred alternatives to restraints and restrictive practices.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the types of restrictive practices that have been known to be used in a care setting.
  • Discuss the medical, legal and ethical issues involved in the use of restrictive practices.
  • Recognise how positive support strategies can be used as an alternative to restraint or restrictive practice.
