Course Description:

In this course you will learn practical approaches to assist care staff to understand and be able to respond effectively to the behaviours and the psychological symptoms of dementia.

You will learn about the kinds of behaviours that you may encounter and be encouraged to view these behaviours as a form of communication of unmet needs of the person with living with dementia. In addition, you will learn strategies you can use when responding to these behaviours.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain why understanding the person and the underlying reasons for changes in behaviours is crucial to responding appropriately
  • Recognise approaches that can be used to respond to behaviour
  • Identify how to document and review episodes of behaviour in order to support the development of effective and informed approaches

    Who is this course appropriate for:

    This course is appropriate for all staff who work in home care.

    Continuing Professional Development Hours:

    Up to 8 hours can be earned completing this course.
