This short online module introduces care workers to the concept of whistleblowing within the care sector. It explains the importance of raising concerns, outlines the protections available to whistleblowers, and guides workers on how to report wrongdoing safely and appropriately. The course highlights how a transparent, accountable culture contributes to safer, higher-quality care for individuals.

Course Aim:

To build awareness and confidence among aged care workers in recognising, reporting, and responding to concerns about wrongdoing or poor care practices, while understanding the legal protections provided to whistleblowers.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course, participants should be able to:

• Define whistleblowing and explain its role in promoting safety and accountability in the care sector.

• Outline the protections for whistleblowers, including what types of disclosures are protected.

• Identify examples of reportable conduct or concerns that should be raised.

• Describe the appropriate channels and processes for reporting concerns within their organisation and externally, where required.

• Recognise the importance of a supportive reporting culture in safeguarding the rights, wellbeing and safety of people in care.
